Zillow Launches AI Mode as Q1 Revenue Climbs 18% to $708M

Zillow reported Q1 2026 revenue of $708 million, up 18% year-over-year, driven by a 42% surge in rentals revenue and a 96% increase in mortgage origination volume. The company also unveiled its most consequential product bet in years: AI Mode.

Launched to 5% of users in Q1, AI Mode replaces Zillow's traditional filter-based search with an LLM-powered conversational interface. Buyers describe what they're looking for in natural language — neighborhood feel, commute needs, school preferences — and the system surfaces matched listings and schedules tours without requiring manual form inputs.

The significance of the rollout goes beyond the feature itself. Zillow is the first major portal to route real buyer traffic through an AI-native search path at scale. If conversion rates hold, it sets a new baseline expectation for how search works across the industry — and raises the competitive bar for Redfin, Realtor.com, and any MLS-adjacent platform still relying on filter-based UX.

Full AI Mode rollout is expected across all users in the coming quarters.
